Austerity Flies Business Class
veena | Sep 11 2009

Why should we give up our comfort? Why should we travel by economy class with the commoners seems to be the refrain of each and every politician and ministers cutting across the party lines. Reacting to the austerity drive by the Prime Minister they all behaved like pampered and spoilt brats citing most frivolous reasons as to why economy class does not suit them.

As per Sharad Pawar Agriculture Minister (don’t miss the portfolio he is handling), recalled that when he travelled in economic class when he was Defence Minister to Moscow, the Russians went in a tizzy when they could not locate him in Business class, it seems to me that no translator or may be the flight crew had abandoned the plane as soon as it landed so no one was available for the Russians to inquire about Mr. Pawar.

Mr Dayanidhi Maran the Textile Minister has his own way of calculation which is certainly different from the present one, he says it is cheaper to travel by business class and travelling by economy class will cost the Government more.

Everyone knows that Dr. Farooq Abdullah minister for non conventional energy has an imposing personality, tall and handsome, he finds it uncomfortable to fit in the cramped economy class, as I have never travelled by plane I would not know that but methinks that Dr. Abdullah is not the only tall Indian in the whole country.

Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma does jet hopping a lot and lot that too at a very short notice so he would like it to be as comfortable as possible. The ministers’ envy came forward when they compared their aircraft less position with one of those with personal aircrafts such as Ministers of Defence, Home, Finance and external affairs.

Naturally the benevolent Prime Minister had to give in, he allowed them to at least take prior permission for flying Business class. Now who would dare refuse permission to the upper crust.
